Chin and Rakhine States, Sagaing and Magway Regions in Myanmar

Myanmar is subject to annual monsoon rains that are helpful for farmers but often cause flooding and landslides. In 2015, the heavy rains were particularly bad. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that as of August 10, 2015 the death toll rose to 72 and over 582,000 persons were reported to be directly affected by the flooding. The hardest hit areas are Chin and Rakhine States, and the Sagaing and Magway regions.

GCSF was in excellent position to provide immediate assistance to those most in need. GCSF Representative Kaythi Aung and Dr. Wunna with whom GCSF has collaborated very closely on healthcare assistance in the area are leading GCSF efforts to provide this emergency assistance.

GCSF supported Dr. Wunna in providing health services and basic necessities to those in need through funding to buy and distribute medicines, clean water, nutritional support, and emergency supplies.
