History

Founded in 1994 by travel-industry expert Marcia Selva, Global Community Service Foundation is the philanthropic arm of her Washington, D.C. area travel company Global Spectrum. Global Spectrum specializes in one-of-a-kind travel experiences in Southeast Asia.

During her many trips to the region, Selva witnessed the extreme deprivation and hardships of the people in Viet Nam, Myanmar (formerly Burma), and elsewhere in Southeast Asia. It was these experiences that led Selva and her fellow concerned travelers to found Global Community Service Foundation.

Initially, its activities were focused primarily in Viet Nam and were comprised of the donation of fundamental items, such as livestock to villages, wheelchairs to landmine victims plus computers and books to schools.

Celebrating twenty years of service in 2014, Global Community Service Foundation has completed dozens of sustainable projects in support of its vision and mission.
